If your marriage could use a little extra care and nurturing recently, then you came to the right place!

If your marriage is in perfectly good shape and you are loving the Mr. and Mrs. status, then you still came to the right place!

Just these 5 things can help you nurture and improve your marriage (aka friendship).

1. Acknowledge each other

Give each other your attention. That's all we ever really want is attention right? Here are a few things you can do to put in extra effort:

  • Kiss and hug good morning and good night

  • Greet your spouse when they walk in the door (Let them come home to peace)

  • Ask them how they are

  • Ask what they would like to do/eat

  • Scratch their back

2. Appreciate and Praise

Acknowledge, attention, appreciate. The triple A to marriage.

  • Don't take what they do for granted

  • Thank them throughout the day

  • Keep track of how many positive things you say (researchers say that saying 1 negative comment can cancel out 5 positive ones)

  • Say "I appreciate it when you..." (They will most likely do that thing again!)

3. Do Fun Things Together

Don't forget about the fun side of your relationship.

  • Remember that you are spouses first and parents second

  • Let your kids see you kiss and hold hands (they'll act like it's gross, but thank you for it later ;) )

  • One date per week is a great rule to live by (See "52 Dates to take your spouse on this year")

  • Do things that they love to do... then do things that you love to do

  • Read books together! (If that is your thing...)

4. Set Goals Together

A couple that sets goals together... achieves together.

  • Have family/spouse counsels each week or month

  • Never stop planning your future together

  • Tell each other things you are doing well on and things you could each work on

  • Plan even the small things together

5. Make each other feel safe

The previous 4 things mentioned in this post are a good way to meet this 5 one, but that doesn't make it less important.

One of the most important things you can do in any relationship is make the other person feel safe, listened to and respected. That is the key to success right there!

Just think, your significant other isn't afraid to tell you anything! You make them so comfortable that they start saying almost everything that enters their head, no matter how strange it is. #relationshipgoals

*Tip: Always be humble and gentle.

Happy Loving!
